About ECOO

Who Becomes a Member of the ECOO Community?
If you are interested in ICTs role in the education environment, curriculum integration and digital citizenship of our young people and want to share your enthusiasm by making our annual conference and other events and concepts happen, then just volunteer and you will become a member. Check our website and email the Board or speak to any volunteer at our conference.

ECOO Annual Conference
Every year ECOO holds its annual conference. It is one of the major conferences relating to ICT in Canada and after 30 years is certainly the oldest. This event provides sessions for everyone, from the beginning user to the computer expert. All levels of education, from pre-school to post secondary education are covered. It features presentations by Canadian and international ICT leaders and practising teachers, as well as a large exhibit area with vendors highlighting some of the latest and greatest ICT innovations for the education sector.

Other ECOO Community Events
ECOO Mini-Conferences have been arranged in the past organized by groups of individuals that wanted to do things more locally. These came under the model of ECOO Special Interest Groups and can occur throughout the year and throughout the province. We just need volunteers to make them happen!

ECOO supports media contests, an Educator of the Year Award and Scholarships for Computer Science students.

Special Interest Groups (SIG)
ECOO’s Special Interest Groups can be created by the ECOO Board when a focus is required.

The ECOO Board welcomes ideas for the creation of new Special Interest Groups as needs arise. Anyone wishing to create a special interest group is invited to contact any member of the ECOO Board of Directors for assistance in creating a proposal.

Although the Special Interest Groups operate autonomously (with their own elected executive and rules), they can be subsidized by ECOO if funds permit.

ECOO-CS
ECOO-CS is one such group that for many years has focused on issues and ideas of interest to Computer Studies and Computer Science educators. Its aims are to promote the exchange of ideas, programs and resources to make courses interesting, challenging and relevant. ECOO-CS runs an annual programming contest which attracts great attention all across the province. Want to help? Volunteer!

ECOO-ELEM
In the past ECOO-ELEM promoted a specific awareness of the trends in computer applications in classrooms from pre-school years through the transition years. For years it provided the sharing of ideas, a support network and even an annual mini-conference. If you interested in continuing such a focus let the ECOO Board know.

ECOO-Community (“Commun-IT”):
All are invited to join in our own social network! Blogs, wikis, video and photo sharing, as well as community discussion forum areas are open to members of the ECOO community interested in sharing how they integrate technology into their teaching.

Visit www.commun-IT.org/community and join in.

Annual General Meetings
The ECOO Board and all Special Interest Groups hold an AGM each year. Members of each volunteer group are invited to attend the meetings and propose and vote on ideas. Plan to attend!
